Everything has a beginning and an end, but E-Global isn’t leaving the stage. We continue developing LU4 on Unreal Engine 4 (launched in June 2025) and remain passionate about creating unique gaming experiences. However, the actions of official publishers ignoring community requests are concerning.

Why is this happening? Copyright infringement is profitable, and fines are minimal, affecting only server administrators (source). But the main reason is the players. They are not just consumers of free-shard servers but their driving force, creating unique worlds and sustaining the community.

If players are deprived of freedom, they will leave, and the market will face decline. New projects created by teams that understand their audience are already emerging and could overshadow the original.

Consequences: Limiting alternatives leads to a monopoly but not to prosperity. Players value community, clans, and atmosphere, not the brand. Without freedom, the market stagnates.

Free-shards: Problem or Salvation?

Server leaks and emulators have existed for years. Is this bad? No, it has given the game a second wind and nurtured professionals now working in the industry. Examples of custom modifications in Dota 2, Heroes III, or GTA prove that freedom is the key to success.

MasterWork is not just a server but a team’s passion. Free-shard projects are a hobby, not a business, gathering feedback and creating unique content. The free-shard audience in Russia exceeds 300,000 unique users monthly, including experts with 10–20 years of experience. Collaboration with such projects is key to preserving the MMORPG ecosystem.

MasterWork: Our Contribution to the Legend

MasterWork is a reimagining of Lineage 2 based on the C1–H5 era. We optimized the Unreal Engine 2.5 client, implemented over 198 modifications, and created up to 220 days of immersive gameplay. Unlike LU4 (pre-alpha with 150,000 players and a peak online of 13,000), MasterWork offers a deep gaming experience.
